New Delhi, November 9: Amid rising public concern over deteriorating air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR), reports circulated about a possible citizens’ protest at India Gate today. However, Delhi Police clarified that no official permission has been granted for any such gathering and urged residents to avoid assembling at the site without authorization.
The city has been struggling under severe air pollution conditions, with AQI levels consistently hovering in the ‘very poor to severe’ range. Health experts continue to warn that extended exposure could trigger respiratory problems, particularly among children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing lung diseases.
Despite growing frustration over choking air, authorities stressed that public gatherings at India Gate require prior approval, especially due to ongoing Section 144-like crowd regulation measures often applied in central Delhi for security reasons. Police officials stated that if any group attempts to assemble without authorization, necessary action will be taken to ensure public order.
Meanwhile, environmental groups and citizen alliances are using online campaigns, urging policymakers to enforce stronger pollution control, promote clean transport, and crack down on stubble burning and industrial emissions.
